2. Why do I need certifications to get ahead?
According to several published studies by several publishing and professional organizations including IDC http://www.idc.com, EarthWeb GoCertify http://www.gocertify.com, and Ziff-Davis Publications http://www.ziffdavis.com, obtaining certification in a particular field provides significant advantages in increased salary, advancement, and recognition. 3. What types of tests are available?
4. Do I need special software to use the site?
5. What do you mean by CAT and why is it important?
Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) was originally developed by IBM Corporation. It provides the means to present a test to the candidate with the questions getting progressively harder as the user answers them correctly. Therefore, CAT is more useful in assessing user skills since it presents real life challenging scenarios where the test becomes harder as the candidate continues ahead.
6. What does it cost to take a test?
None. The tests are available FREE for a limited time only. Most tests cost over $30 to administer with our competition charging $40 or more per test.
7. What if I fail a test and need to take another one?
For now, you can take the test as many times as necessary. This method is helpful if the user is training for a particular career and needs to be proficient. However, in the future, we may limit this to 1 or 2 times so that its usefulness is maximized. Although the questions are chosen randomly and timed, it will ultimately get easier to take the test if the user continually takes the test. However, a true measure of the test is if the user takes it once only (as would be done in real life scenarios).
8. How often do you update the tests?
The eCertifications tests are updated regularly with new questions or problems. Also, new exams are added each week.
9. How do you know when someone is taking the test for another person?
The tests are administered on an honor basis. Therefore, we ask that the user self certify his or her identity during the registration process. However, research by a Ziff-Davis indicates that the vast majority of users are honest when they are taking online tests, particularly if it is time limited. However, we employ several security features (such as capturing IP) as a means to discourage this practice.
10. How long do you keep a certificate on file?
eCertifications tests are kept on file permanently for candidate access and review. However, since technology is rapidly evolving, the validity of each test is 12 months from the date last taken. Therefore, we ask that each candidate continue to take the exam yearly.
11. How do I obtain a hard copy of my certificate?
In addition to online transcripts, hard copies of certificates are available in professional quality PDF formats and may be downloaded directly from our Web site. 16. How can you be sure that the person who claims to take a test is whom he/she claims to be?
Currently, there are no universally verifiable, effective, or pragmatic processes that can assure 100% user identity on the Internet. However, there are mechanisms (such as 3 factor authentication) built into the system that is intended to improve the integrity of test takers. This includes timing each test and limiting the number of same test that are taken over a period of time. Additionally, we track the domain IP from the user took an exam. Since test questions are randomly selected and are computer adaptive, we encourage employers to revalidate a candidate's skills by requiring them to retake one or more exams in a monitored area such as an office.
